The timber of this stately tree is valuable. It prefers a well drained soil and is best in drier warm soils. Will develop a deep tap root.  Plant in full sun

Bark: Silvery-grey shallow ridges, becoming furrowed and rougher with age.

Growth rate: Slow to moderate

Fruit: Nuts ripen if long, hot summers are experienced. Usually thin-shelled
