Stenocarpus sinuatus – ‘Firewheel Tree’

A fabulous native tree from the rainforests of the Eastern States, in the wild it can reach heights of 30m but is normally much shorter in cultivation. It has lovely green lobed leaves but the real standout feature of this plant is the wonderful flowers. It has bright red flowers that are arranged in a wheel-like shape and are present on the plant from Summer through to Autumn. It prefers rich, well draining soils and a position in full to part sun. It can be tip pruned when young to encourage a small dense habit or can be left to grow into a tree. It needs regular watering when young and should be watered and mulched over the Summer months for best growth.
