Bears small, red berries with a crisp salty sweet flavour. Leaves are also edible, although they do need cooking before eating as they are rich in oxalic acid.
Prefers full sun but will take some shade. Will tolerate saline soil, sandy soil, long periods of drought and light frosts. Grows to 0.6 m high by up to 1 m wide.
