Alpinia caerulea “Red Back Ginger”
$29.99 – $39.99
Native to the rainforest understoreys of the Atherton Tablelands, this native ginger may be used for both its spicy ginger rhizome, and its blue berries, which are both edible. The berries have a pleasant lemony-ginger flavour, however the seeds should not be eaten. To harvest the root, simply dig up, and berries may be picked and eaten straight off the stem.
Red Back ginger is a shade loving perennial that needs the soil to be kept moist. Fertilise in spring and mulch well before summer. Grows up to 2m high x 1m. Suitable for pots.
