Philodendron sp. ‘Rojo Congo’
Price range: $16.99 through $99.99
FEATURES: The hardiest of the philodendrons, this one, like the ZZ and Monstera, are rather hard to get wrong if you don’t overwater them! This variety does beautifully in lower light spaces, requires minimal watering and has a large clumping habit, however it can be trained to climb a coir totem or moss pole. Moderate grower.
HEIGHT X WIDTH: 1.5m x 1m
FOLIAGE: Large, broad, and glossy. Gets the name “rojo” from its new leaves, which unfurl in a deep, shiny red, however, as the leaves mature, it will fade to a burgundy green colour creating a beautiful contrast between the new and mature foliage. Leaves grow to be 60cm long.
FLOWER: Insignificant
POSITION: Low- moderate indirect to bright indirect light
USES: Beginner friendly plant gift for a chronic underwater-er, low maintenance houseplant, understory in a shaded garden, containers, feature plant indoors or in shaded, protected outdoor areas, hanging baskets
COMMENTS: Needs well-draining potting mix, fertilise during the warmer months of the year with a foliar fertiliser or a liquid fertiliser. Loves humidity. Repot when rootbound, in spring or summer. Toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Water when the top inch of soil is dry, adapting your regime with the seasons.
