Passiflora edulis – ‘Passionfruit Flame Ruby’

A purple skin passionfruit filled with sweet and juicy pulp. The vine is vigorous and able to be used as a screen as it will quickly fill a trellis, produce ornamental purple and white flowers followed by delicious fruit.

Position: Full sun, protected from harsh winds and frost.

Size & Habit: 2-5m, vigorous climbing vine

Flower: Large ornamental purple and white flower, spring to autumn

Fruit: Orange/yellow flesh, sweet and juicy with crunchy seeds

Skin: Purple, thick

Cropping: Summer to winter

Harvest/Maturity: Passionfruit plants fruit within a year but need replacement every 3-5 years as their harvest starts to decline

Pollination: Self-fertile, but pollinating by hand with a brush can increase yields

USES: Eaten fresh, added to drinks and desserts, incorporated into marinades, dressings, and salsas. Fruit can also be frozen or preserved.
