Mangifera indica

FEATURES: A tropical, evergreen tree, with a dense crown and rounded canopy, producing delicious fragrant fruits

SIZE: 7m H

POSITION: Full sun in organically rich, well-drained soil

FOLIAGE: Large glossy, slightly elongated leaves emerging as light green or copper before becoming deep green

FLOWER: Small pale yellow or cream clusters, known as panicles, from late winter to spring

FRUIT: Oblong in shape with a nutty, sweet flavour and crunchy texture

CROPPING: The fruit grow fast and ripen after 3 to 4 months, some late cultivars after 5 months.

MATURITY: The period from fruit set to maturity depends upon climate and usually ranges from 12 to 20 weeks

POLLINATION: Doesn’t require a second tree to produce fruit, however, fruit set benefits from insect pollinators transferring pollen 

USES: Mainly used as a salad vegetable, juiced or eaten fresh straight from the tree

COMMENTS: Water regularly and protect from frost until tree is established, then fertilise and mulch annually.
