Hazelnuts are very high in protein. “Red Aveline” are excellent used fresh, and for roasting and cooking. Semi erect growing tree to approx 4 – 5m. Prefers temperate climates. Best grown in a sheltered position protected from hot winds and with shade from hot afternoon sun.
Size: 5m
Nut: Medium, oblong, chestnut-coloured. Thin shell.
Cropping: Early season flowering. Fruits late February to early March.
Possible Pollinators: Cosford. Due to a unique pollination system Hazelnuts are unpredictable for recommendation of cultivars. Although both male and female flowers are borne on the same tree, they don’t always flower at the same time. Planting different varieties will assist with pollination.
