Effective for improving soil structure and breaking down clay soils. Useful in helping to improve soil structure and increase the infiltration of air and water through the soil. It also allows plant roots to penetrate heavy soil, alleviating compaction. Gypsum is pH neutral and is a useful source of calcium.

Gypsum should be added at a rate of 0.5 -1kg per m2, digging into the soil. It is also beneficial to add organic matter to continue to improve the soil structure.
