Elettaria cardamomum 

Price range: $16.99 through $24.99

This plant does it all being both ornamental plant and producing an edible seed used in Indian and Asian cuisine. The plant has large upright green leaves and can grow to 4m high and wide, however this is unlikely to occur in the cooler climate of Perth. The white flowers are bourne on loose spikes in summer and the edible seeds are left to dry on the plant before being harvested and used for cooking if desired. It will appreciate a shaded site and being planted into well draining soil improved with organic matter. Mulch to maintain moisture and keep the roots cool.
