Calodendrum capense

$74.99

Small to medium semi-deciduous tree with beautiful pink flowers borne over summer. It has a domed canopy and makes a fantastic shade tree thanks to its dense foliage. Despite its common name, Cape Chestnut is not closely related to either Chestnuts (Castanea) or Horse Chestnuts (Aesculus), but is a member of the citrus family.

Height: 10+m

Width: 8m

Foliage: Dark green glossy leaves with paler undersides. May lose some or all of its leaves in cooler climates. Lemon and pine aroma when crushed.

Flower: Pale pink spikes, sweetly-scented, summer

Bark: Smooth, grey

Tolerances: Prefers a sunny, open position in rich, moist, well-drained soil. Tolerates frost and some coastal exposure when established. Protect from frost when young. Apply mulch in spring to keep roots cool and moist.
