Musa acuminata – ‘Pisang Ceylon’

Position: Full sun, protect from strong winds (especially cold winds) and frost. This variety is more cold tolerant than other bananas but protection would still be appreciated. 

Size & Habit: 2-5m H, palm-like appearance

Flower: Long spike, can be eaten as a vegetable, however then no fruit will form

Fruit: Small, sweet, flavourful fruit with a creamy texture, fruit becomes rounder when ripe

Skin: Bright yellow  

Cropping: Can fruit year round 

Harvest/Maturity: May take up to 2 to 3 years to bear fruit

Pollination: Self fertile

Uses: Fruit eaten fresh or baked, blended in smoothies, made into ice cream and cakes, flowers cooked like a vegetable, leaves can be used to wrap and steam food but cannot be eaten
