A popular banana cultivar now available in a dwarf form. Lady Finger bananas are small (perfect for lunch boxes), with a sweet rich flavour and creamy texture.
Position: Full sun to part shade with protection from strong, cold wind and frost
Size & Habit: 2m x 2m, upright palm-like
Flower: Large pendulous cone, year round
Fruit: Small, rounded, green ripening to yellow, develop in clusters
Skin: Yellow, thin and easy to peel
Cropping: Fruit will ripen year round. Once the fruit have grown to size, prune the flower spike off the tree and leave to ripen in a protected location with a stable temperature.
Harvest/Maturity: 1-2 years
Pollination: Self fertile
Uses: The flower can be cooked and used in savory dishes (if you harvest the flower there will be no fruit). The fruit is excellent eaten fresh but it can also be dried, frozen, added to drinks or used in baked goods.ย
