Atractocarpus fitzalanii – ‘Native Gardenia’

$34.99

Produces edible hard shelled fruits, up to 7cm in diameter, containing pale, soft and sweet segments with numerous small white seeds. Native to coastal forests of Far North Queensland. Fragrant star shaped white flowers are produced in spring, with the fruit that follows ripening slowly over winter and turning yellow when ready for harvest.

Similar to a Mangosteen in size, shape and flavour, they can be eaten raw on their own or used in salads, tarts, cakes and other desserts.

Can reach a height of 6 m high by 3 m wide, however can be kept smaller by regular pruning. May be grown in a pot. While young, shelter from strong winds and the hot afternoon sun. Prefers a moist, well drained soil. Mulch well and protect from frost.
