HEIGHT X WIDTH: 4m x 3m

FOLIAGE: Long, serrated, mid green

FLOWER: Large, deep red, spring

POSITION: Part to dappled shade

USES: Native gardens, flower gardens, shaded areas, pots and containers

COMMENTS: Can be challenging to grow in the home garden, it needs regular watering, excellent drainage and air flow through the plant, prune after flowering, fertilise with native slow release fertiliser

SEED SOWING: Waratahs grow readily from seed, and no special pretreatment is needed before sowing. Viability lessens as the seed gets older. Plant in spring to autumn using good seed raising mix, and cover with soil to the same depth as the seed, do not plant too deeply. Keep the soil moist but not wet as the seed can rot in boggy conditions, or not germinate if they dry out. Germination should be in 14 to 21 days after sowing.  Plants should be potted up as soon as they are large enough to handle, being careful not to disturb the roots too much.
