An unusual turmeric species with a blue/ black rhizome. The rhizome has a bitter flavour and is prized for its medicinal properties rather than its culinary uses. It has sculptural pinky white flowers and an attractive red stripe on its foliage making it an ornamental addition to the garden.

Position: Full to dappled shade in moist, improved soils

Uses: An ornamental perennial perfect for shaded, tropical gardens with the added bonus of medicinal properties.
