Tibouchina lepidota

A lovely evergreen tree growing to 5m tall with velvet textured green leaves with attractive red margins. In Summer and Autumn the plant is covered in bright purple flowers that are so vigorous they almost hide the leaves from view. A lovely tall shrub or small tree that needs protection from frost, cold and strong winds.  Grow in a partially shaded area with regular watering in summer.  

Size: 5m x 4m

Flower: Rich Purple

Foliage: Green with a subtle reddish margin.

Flowering Season: Summer/Autumn

Soil: Prefers well drained improved soil.

Mulch well to keep the soil cool especially in summer.  Prune to shape and to promote dense growth.  Use a slow release or controlled release fertiliser to get the best blooms.
