Climbing spinach, vine spinach or Malabar spinach is a tropical, quick growing vine with soft green stems and large green leaves, with flowers and purple berries. 

Position: Full sun. Likes the heat and tropics. 

Uses: The leaves look similar to spinach, and it can be used in the same way. Young leaves have sweet earthy taste. Older leaves have mild peppery flavour. Good addition to salads, soups and stir fries. Juicy berries can be added to colour sweets, drinks and jellies. 

Size: Up to 3m H x 1.5m W. As a climbing plant, it needs the support of a trellis or up a wall. It does well in containers.
