Suaeda australis – ‘Seablite’
$16.99
Fast growing low shrub or ground-cover, native to all states except the Northern Territory. The leaves can be eaten fresh for a pleasantly salty flavour and crunchy texture, or cooked for a texture similar to bean shoots. Can also be pickled. Harvest the stems as the plant grows or alternatively, harvest the entire plant by pulling it up by the roots. Clusters of pink flowers are produced from Summer to early Winter.
Thrives in salt-marshes and other saline positions. Grow in full sun to part shade. Tolerates a range of soil types provided it is kept well watered throughout the summer. Grows 20 – 50 cm high and can spread up to 2 m wide.
