Hibiscus sabdariffa – ‘Rosella’

Rosella is an annual shrub grown for its culinary and ornamental features.

The woody shrub can grow to approx. 2.5m and has stunning red branches when new growth appears. The leaves are deeply lobed, dark green and edible. They bear a taste somewhere between spinach and rocket and are a useful addition to salads.

The flowers are a delicate pale yellow and are followed by deep red seed pods. These are of beautiful ornate value, and the calyxes can be used for jams, stews and making rosella tea.
