Attractive pond plant that has large arrow shaped glossy green leaves and produces spikes of mauve-blue flowers during spring and summer. Grow in shallow water (up to 20cm deep) where it is effective at filtering the pond water. Can also be grown in boggy soil at the edge of a pond. Grows 60-70 cm high. The seed is edible as are the young leaf stalks which can be added to salads or cooked.
