Euphorbia pulcherrima – Poinsettia

A Christmas essential! No holiday table is complete with out a lovely living centre piece of Poinsettia. Their new leaves come in a wonderful deep red and gradually fade to green. They have a tight cluster of flowers at the top of the stem, and the combination of the two creates a long lasting display.

They should be grown near a window and only watered at the base of the soil or by immersing the pot in a saucer of water as the leaves are easily damaged by water standing on them. Outside they can become a tall shrub reaching 3m tall and 2m wide but will stay much smaller if kept in a pot. They should be grown in a part shade position and be kept moist when outside.
