Long sword-shaped leaves of a variety of colours make Phormium a brilliant bold plant for the garden.

A slow growing perennial grass, New Zealand Flax prefers a moist, well-drained position out of harsh winds. Once established, it can tolerate a wider range of conditions. Best in a position with some protection from the hot afternoon sun. Suitable to be planted in a coastal garden with soil improvement.
