Sterculia quadrifida – ‘Peanut tree’

Medium sized (7 – 10 m) semi-deciduous tree native to Queensland. Bunches of lemon scented white bell shaped flowers are produced in spring followed by large leathery pods that turn bright orange-red when ripe (summer). Pods split when ripe to expose large black edible seeds that taste like peanuts. They can be eaten raw or roasted.
