An attractive perennial with white flowers and rhizomes that are used for the exotic Orris Root powder. Also known as the Florentine Iris. 

Position: Full sun in moist, free draining alkaline soil. 

Uses: Once dried, the violet scented root makes an extremely fragrant powder that is widely used in perfumers and potpourri. There is some anecdotal evidence that it has been used traditionally as an aid in curing colds.
