Garcinia madruno – ‘Mangosteen Lemon Drop’

An unusual tropical fruit with yellow skin and white flesh with a sweet yet acidic flavour. It is an understorey tree and will grow well in a partially shaded location.

Position: Protected from summer afternoon sun, requires a warm microclimate

Size & Habit: 6-10m in cultivation, upright evergreen tree

Flower: Creamy white

Fruit: Sweet and tangy pulp, contains hard seeds that are not eaten

Skin: Thick, yellow to orange, can be peeled by hand

Cropping: Spring and summer, fruit fall from tree when ripe

Harvest/Maturity: Can take up to 5 years to fruit

Pollination: Benefits from cross pollination

Uses: Mainly eaten fresh as flesh clings to seed making it hard to process the fruit
