Litchi chinensis – ‘Red Ball’

An attractive, long-lived small tree with glossy green foliage. It produces clusters of large red fruit mid-season.

Position: Needs a full sun position with protection from wind and frost

Size & Habit: Evergreen with a spreading habit, 2-5m

Flower: White or yellow clusters

Fruit: Sweet and juicy, translucent white with a single brown seed

Skin: Textured, easy to peel

Cropping: Summer

Harvest/Maturity: Can take 3-4 years to fruit

Pollination: Self-fertile

Uses: Eating fresh, dried, frozen, or pulped. The seed can be removed and sweet fillings stuffed in its place.
