Also known as a Lilly Pilly, this is a fast growing Australian native with edible pink-red berries in summer. Apple-like in texture and with a tart sweetness, they may be eaten fresh or made into jams, jellies, muffins, cakes and wine.

Syzygium australe will reach 3-4m tall but is easily hedged. Tolerates most conditions but prefers rich, well drained soils.

Syzygium smithii will reach 8m high x 6m wide in cultivation.
