A large tropical tree that produces giant fruit that can be up to 30kg. The fruit can be cooked as a vegetable or eaten when ripe. Protect from Easterly winds and position the plant to allow it to be shaded in the afternoons during summer while establishing.

Flower: Unusual oval flowers, green
Fruit: Up to 90cm long, pulp is thick and sweet and can be yellow or orange
Skin: Green, yellow or brown with short spines

Harvest/Maturity: Can take 3-8 years to produce fruit
Pollination: Self-fertile
Uses: When unripe the fruit can be shredded and used as a meat substitute. Ripe fruit can be added to desserts, smoothies and baked goods. The seeds can be cooked (can not be eaten raw) and eaten.
