“Cosford” are reported to be a good variety to pollinate other cultivars. Hazelnuts are very high in protein and the nuts can be used for roasting, blanching, eating fresh, or cooking. A hardy tree growing to 2.5-3m and producing less suckers than other varieties. Prefers temperate climates. Best grown in a sheltered position protected from hot winds and with shade from hot afternoon sun.
Nut: Light brown thin shell
Flesh: Large quality kernel, good flavour
Possible Pollinators: Due to a unique pollination system Hazelnuts are unpredictable for recommendation of pollinating cultivars. ย Although both male and female flowers are borne on the same tree, they donโt always flower at the same time. Planting different varieties will assist with pollination.
