Alpinia galanga – ‘Galangal’

A popular perennial herb with a rhizome used to flavour cooking. It also has ornamental purposes in the garden with fragrant leaves and attractive flowers.

Position: A protected position in part to full shade and moist fertile soil

Size & Habit: Stalks can grow up to 2m and it will spread out in a clump

Flower: White to pink flower, spring to winter

Cropping: Can be harvested in small amounts as required

Harvest/Maturity: Leave your plant to grow for at least a year to ensure enough healthy rhizome for harvesting

Uses: Medicinal purposes, flavouring cooking, used to flavour drinks
