Malus spectabilis “Plena” – Grafted onto a 1.8m standard

Beautiful crab apple with abundant, mildly fragrant, semi-double flowers that are rosy-pink on the outer petals and softer pastel pink inside. This gives a two-toned effect when the buds swell and open. Borne in dense umbels of six to eight flowers in mid-spring, however, the tree often takes a few years to ‘settle down’ and produce abundant flowers.

Adaptable to a wide range of conditions but best in deep, rich, well drained soils in a position receiving full sun to part shade.

Growth Rate: Moderate

Foliage: Glossy bright green leaves with a serrated margin.

Flower: Semi double flowers with rose pink outer petals and pastel pink inner petals. Can produce small fruit after flowering.

Bark: Shiny grey-brown becoming scaly with age.
