Clerodendrum thomsoniae – ‘Bleeding Heart Vine’ (syn. Clerodendron)

A twining, evergreen climber native to tropical western Africa, this climber does well in warm climates and is not recommended for frost-prone areas. Leaves are large, oval, and glossy green, and stunning red and white flowers are actually white calyces surrounding the smaller red petals in the centre. Suitable to grow up trellises, fences, arches and pergolas.

In Perth, plant in a position with morning sun and afternoon shade in well-drained, improved soil. Protection from strong winds, hot sun, and frost is required. Recommended to grow in a protected position surrounded by other plants for increased humidity.
