Beautiful purple leaved small specimen tree, that provides year round interest. Young branches have a distinctive ‘zig-zag’ habit. 

Habit: 5m H x 5m W

Growth Rate: Slow

Foliage: Large heart-shaped leaves emerge a brilliant shade of red-purple, deepening to a purple black before fading to green-purple for summer. Yellow and orange autumn tones.

Flower: Masses of pink pea-like flowers are produced in clusters during early Spring along the bare branches.

Bark: Dark reddish-brown to grey with age

Position: Tolerates a variety of soil types but does best in moist, deep, well-drained fertile soil. Dislikes a wet position. Avoid excessively hot or windy positions. Plant in full sun to part shade.
