Castanosperm australe – ‘Moreton Bay Chestnut’

The ‘Black Bean’ plant or ‘Moreton Bay Chestnut’ is a large evergreen tree with uses as an ornamental shade tree in parks or large gardens. It can reach 20m tall and spread to 8m in the right conditions. It has lovely glossy green leaves and orange flowers in spring and summer. As a juvenile it makes an attractive indoor specimen however should not be planted out into a small garden when it out grows the pot due to its size at maturity. It should be planted in full sun in a well-drained soil that has been improved with organic matter.
