Bougainvillea glabra – ‘Sanderiana’

A great climbing plant growing to 6m tall and 6m wide if not trimmed. In summer and autumn it produces lovely purple blooms which can almost cover the plant.

 It is great to use to cover structures like pergolas and fences. It is perfect for tropical gardens thanks to its beautiful bright flowers and dense green foliage.

It should be planted in a full sun position in well draining soils. It should be protected from frost but this variety is a bit more cold hardy than some other bougainvillea. After flowering it will benefit from pruning and an application of balanced slow release fertiliser at the start of spring. Make sure the fertiliser is not high in nitrogen as this will cause lots of new green growth at the expense of the flowers.
