Musa acuminata x balbisiana – ‘Gold Finger’

Position: Full sun, protect from strong winds (especially cold winds) and frost

Size & Habit: 3-5m H, palm-like appearance

Flower: Long spike, can be eaten as a vegetable, however then no fruit will form

Fruit: Medium sized, tangy flavour, fruit resistant to browning once cut 

Skin: Golden yellow, but can also be eaten green

Cropping: Can fruit year round 

Harvest/Maturity: May take up to 2 to 3 years to bear fruit

Pollination: Self fertile

Uses: Fruit eaten fresh or baked, blended in smoothies, made into ice cream and cakes, flowers cooked like a vegetable, leaves can be used to wrap and steam food but cannot be eaten
