Persea americana – JA1A ‘Jala’

The new release giant Australian avocado ‘JA1A’ Jala™. Reaching almost double the size of an ordinary ‘Hass’ or ‘Bacon’ Avocado. This avocado doesn’t brown as easily as some and remains greener for longer than most. Good ratio of flesh to seed. A winner all round!

Position: Needs a full sun position with protection from wind, protect from frost

Size & Habit: 7m x 5m, attractive shade tree

Flower: Creamy green, insignificant

Fruit: Large, up to 1kg, very good, rich buttery, nutty flavour. Smooth, good firm texture.

Skin: Deep green, smooth medium glossy, generally easy to peel

Cropping: Fruit will ripen from July to September

Harvest/Maturity: It can take up to five years to produce its first harvest

Pollination: Showing self-fertile tendencies but can benefit from the presence of an ‘A type’ avocado

Uses: Eating fresh, in salads, blended in smoothies, used to make dips
