Solanum muricatum ‘Pepino’

Subtropical shrub growing to 1m. Mauve flowers become purple-striped, yellow fruit on 1-1.5 year old plants, maturing in late Summer in Perth. Fruit should be fragrant and slightly soft when ripe. Fruit is sweet and similar in flavour to Rockmelon.

Plant into improved, well drained soil in a well protected site. Mulch well and water regularly over Summer. Fertilise in Spring. For best results, support on a trellis so large fruits are kept off the ground.
