Sea Purslane (Sesuvium portulacatrum) – Bush Tucker

Sesuvium portulacatrum ‘Sea Purslane’

140mm pot

In Stock

Fast growing native ground-cover that can be considered weedy by some gardeners, it however has tasty edible, salty leaves and stems. Eaten raw the leaves are salty and slightly bitter with a crunchy texture. When cooked the flavours and texture soften. To harvest simply cut the fresh stems or pull up the entire plant. Can also be used to help with erosion in sandy areas or be used as a spreading ground-cover in rockeries.

Slat tolerant and drought tolerant, sea purslane prefers a well-drained soil in a sunny position. For year round growth, water well in the summer months. Spreads 1-2 m in diameter.
