The Pecan is a large, deciduous tree, growing 25m or more. Pecans grow well in a sheltered position in full sun. A rich, well drained soil is preferred, and fertilising in early spring and summer will ensure strong growth. The tree will reach fruiting age after 8 years, with full production achieved by years 12-15.
Tree Habit: Prune to shape only, aiming for a pyramidal shape, and do not prune after year 5, as nuts appear at branch ends.
Pollination: Self pollinating, however will crop better if paired with Mohawk or Osage.
Maturity: Late autumn.
