Santalum acuminatum – ‘Desert Quandong’
Also called native peach, the Quandong is a small parasitic tree to four metres. Fruits are shiny red when ripe with yellow flesh. This fruit is popular made into jam. The nut is cracked to extract the kernel, which is eaten raw. The kernel is high in energy, protein and fat. Oil from the seeds is used for cosmetic purposes.
