April Gold produces a large dark brown nut enclosed in a prickly green burr. Used for cooking and roasting. Matures early April. Growing to approximately 15 – 20m.
Chestnuts are large trees growing to 10 – 15m high and up to 10m wide. Can take longer to bear nuts than grafted trees. Nuts are harvested are falling from the tree. Best grown in the Perth hills or in the South West of WA. Plant in a sunny position with well drained and well worked soil.
Pollination: Recommended to plant at least two varieties for best results. “Wandiligong Wonder”
