The Judas Tree has a slow to moderate growth rate with an upright habit when young maturing to a round open tree. Will benefit from a pruning to remove lower and inner branches. Large heart shaped leaves open in spring. Generally exhibits brilliant yellow autumn colours. Masses of small purplish pink, pea like flowers borne in groups along the bare branches before the leaves appear in spring. Suited to a wide range of soil types but prefers a moist, deep well drained position. Will not tolerate very dry or overly wet soil. Avoid hot exposed windy positions.
