The Cercis “Avondale” has a slow to moderate growth rate with a compact spreading habit. Young trees benefit from a pruning lower and inner branches. Large heart shaped leaves open in spring. Generally exhibits yellow autumn colours. Masses of small deep rose pink, pea like flowers borne in groups along the bare branches before the leaves appear in spring. Suited to a wide range of soil types but prefers a moist, deep well drained position. Avoid hot exposed windy positions.
