Fruit Fly Trap – Cera Trap

The CeraTrap system works by exploiting the female’s need for dietary protein in order to mature her eggs and prevents the female from reaching the egg laying stage. Hanging traps containing a protein and sugar based liquid within the tree attracts both male and female medfly which make their way into the trap and drown.

CeraTrap is currently the only lure and kill device registered for medfly in Australia.

Trapping works effectively when used in conjunction with baiting and exclusion netting. Trapping should be commenced as fruit starts to form and continued until harvesting is finished.
