Brazilian Cherry – Eugenia uniflora
200 mm pot
Unusual fruiting small tree or large shrub, with ornamental foliage. Small white flowers are followed by the edible ribbed fruit, ripening to bright red. Fruit can be eaten fresh or used in jellies, jams and pies. Foliage emerges bronze-green and matures to a deep gloss green. In colder areas the foliage can turn deep red during the winter. Has the potential to grow up to 5 m high in tropical environments but 2 – 3 m is more likely in Perth conditions. Grow in improved but well-drained soil, in a sheltered position that receives full sun to part shade. Can be pruned to 2 m or grown in a large pot. Protect from frost and hot winds.
