Named for the sweet, blue-black fruit that stain your mouth and tongue. Also called Native Lasiandra. Produces showy mauve/purple flowers throughout spring and summer, followed by small blue-black berries. Best eaten fresh off the shrub.

Fast growing up to 3 m high. Best in part shade with protection from hot winds and afternoon summer sun. Likes a moist well drained soil, enriched with plenty of organic matter. Flowers are very pollen rich and will attract plenty of bees and other pollen-loving insects.
