Banksia prionotes – ‘Acorn Banksia’
A lovely local banksia with long, leathery, toothed leaves that produces large orange cone flowers in autumn. It can grow to 8m tall and 5m wide.
It is a perfect tree for native gardens that attracts bird and insects into the garden. It is loved by black cockatoos so is a great tree to plant in order to attract them into the garden.
It should be planted in well drained soils in a full sun position. Once established it is drought tolerant but it may need some water during extended hot, dry periods. Care should be taken when fertilising to only use products suitable for native plants as is very sensitive to phosphorous.
